Opportunities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Internships and Appointments

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is offering a wide variety of programs in computing and computational sciences for students and recent graduates, including summer internships, MSc and PhD thesis research internships, and postmaster's and postdoctoral appointments. For current job openings and further information on student opportunities, please visit ORNL carreers.

The requirements and demands differ for summer internships, MSc and PhD thesis research internships, and postmasters/postdoctoral appointments. In contrast to summer internships that have short-term training and development goals, MSc/PhD thesis research internships and postmaster's/postdoctoral appointments concentrate on mid- to long-term research objectives. Our summer internship program is designed for students of any nationality studying in the U.S. holding either U.S. citizenship or valid student visa status. Applicants for summer internships should refer to the application process for undergraduate internships at ORNL. We are accepting applications from students studying inside and outside the U.S. for longer internships (typically 6 months) to perform research and development in conjunction with their Master or PhD thesis write-up. In this case, you need to be in your final year of study at an internationally accredited university and, in addition to an extended resume describing your experience in detail, we would require a reference from your professor. Appropriate mentoring and guidance by a staff member is provided in all programs. We are currently hiring:
