Vickie completed a BS degree in Mathematics at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee in 1977, where she received the Physics Medal. She completed her MS degree in Applied Mathematics at the University of Tennessee in 1979. Her thesis was A Comparison of Several Methods for Solving Second-Order Damped Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations.

Vickie has been an ORNL employee since 1979. She is a member of the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division. Her expertise is in parallel 3-D fusion turbulence calculations, high performance computing, scientific Visualization, data analysis, electric power grid modeling, stellarator physics design optimization, fractional derivatives, computer languages including fortran and C++, parallel libraries including MPI, OpenMP, PVM, Cray compiler directives, and operating systems including Unix, Macintosh, and Windows. She is a reviewer for the Journal of Computational Physics and for Physics of Plasmas. She has also been an advisor of projects for more than twelve undergraduate students.
