Future Plans

Currently DOLIB global array sizes are limited by the use of 32-bit integers to a maximum of about 2,000 million entries. Similarly, DONIO can handle files up to 2 gigabytes in size. While this is sufficient for most grand challenge applications, 3D seismic data analysis and Hartree-Fock Calculations require access to 100 gigabyte files. DOLIB/DONIO can be modified to use say 2 gigabytes of memory as a high-speed disk cache to these 100 gigabyte files.

DOLIB shared memory is a very convenient tool for parallelization of serial applications. Although the process is straight-forward, it still requires programmer effort in modifying the source code. A semi-automatic pre-processor can alleviate the programmer much of the mechanics of performing the translation. Such a tool would greatly simplify parallelization of significant industrial applications such as KIVA3 (52,000lines) for modeling flame propagation in internal combustion engines or DYNA3D (70,000lines) for modeling automobile crash-worthiness.
