My research focuses on the development of information systems for data-intensive, collaborative and multi-disciplinary applications. It includes the access, collection, management, and interoperability of data and information through the use of metadata, ontologies, and Web 2.0 technologies. Agent-based systems are part of this interest.
This research is applied in the context of international standardization, scientific applications of interest to the DOE Office of Science, homeland security and intelligence applications, multi-disciplinary collaborations, and Grid computing.
Another aspect of my activities at ORNL is focused on encouraging sustained interest in science and on mentoring interns with the goal of educating young scientists.
