Big problems have massive data requirements. ORNL's separate production and research storage systems allow us to push the frontiers in storage system research while continuing to provide state-of-the-art service to our user community.

History

In response to research needs, ORNL has developed significant expertise in high performance storage systems -- recognized with an R&D 100 award for development of storage management software.

Storage research

The main thrust of ORNL's storage research takes advantage of the CCS storage and networking research facility to improve storage functions for the benefit of scientific applications. Future storage research projects will be listed in this area.
