SFS file Creation Tests in Probe

Staff at Los Alamos National Labortory studied the file-creation performance of the Encina Structured File System running on an IBM RS/6000 Model 44P server (a bus-based machine). The performance was excellent and far surpassed that of nodes with a switch-based memory architecture.

To complement that testing ORNL tested the IBM RS/6000 Model S80, with its switch-based architecture, using local programs and the same programs used by Los Alamos. Summarizing the results, the 44P and the S80 were approximately equal in performance, although the 44P is a much less expensive machine.
