Testing in Preparation for Production Jumbo Frame Gigabit Ethernet

With the earlier successful testing of Gigabit Ethernet jumbo frames in Probe, ORNL decided to implement jumbo frames in production. Jumbo frames will be used on HPSS mover nodes and on the IBM SP, AlphaServer SC and Origin 2000 supercomputers.

One additional set of tests were run in Probe in preparation for the transition to production use. Since HPSS uses DCE on its mover and core-server nodes, and since the DCE servers will *not* be moved to jumbo frames, Probe testing was performed to verify that HPSS would work correctly in the mixed environment.

The tests were successful and the conversion to jumbo frames is well underway.
