Prototype third-party HPSS-HPSS transfers via Hierarchical Storage Interface (hsi)
Production activities for some customers at ORNL and NERSC involve transmitting (copying) data from ORNL's HPSS system to NERSC's. The hsi application is in wide use at both sites and is well suited to the purpose, with some modification. The revised application allows a person at one site to log into two (or more) HPSS systems and specify a transfer. Three constructs are possible: 1) data flows from HPSS to the user's workstation to the other HPSS; 2) data flows from HPSS to HPSS, server to server; 3) data flows from mover to mover. The first two mechanisms are complete and will be moved to production; the third will be further investigated.
