Commodity-scale mover platform testing and tuning

"HPSS "mover" code (used to read/write data from physical devices) has been implemented on IBM, Compaq, Sun and SGI platforms. Oak Ridge's Probe installation purchased each platform, configured as similarly as possible for comparable prices, and purchased 360 gigabytes of FibreChannel disks on 30 spindles together with a FibreChannel switch. The equipment was used to investigate the stability and performance of mover code on each platform both locally and using Gigabit Ethernet network interfaces. RAID5 and RAID3 configurations were tested."
