GENROCO Ups TCP/IP Mark On IBM Platform At Oak Ridge 01.26.01

New York, New York, Jan 19, 2001 (Market News Publishing via COMTEX) -- One
month after record open systems TCP/IP results were achieved with a GENROCO,
Inc. network interface card (NIC) on a Sun Microsystems UNIX platform,
engineers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) ran the same benchmark on an
IBM computer system demonstrating even faster performance.
Using GENROCO's GSN-6466 PCI Gigabyte Systems Network (GSN) NIC on an IBM S80
running AIX 4.3.3, Netperf TCP--STREAM tests sustained throughput of over 154
megabytes per second (MB/s), outpacing the 127 MB/s reached on the Sun
machine. The prior record using open systems bus and network topologies had
been 67 MB/s.
GSN is an open standard, ANSI network interface which offers the highest
bandwidth and lowest latency error-free, flow-controlled data transmission.
TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) is the basic
communication protocol used on most computer networks including the Internet.
PCI is an open bus system between a UNIX server and attached I/O devices.
"We're very pleased to see continually improving results at sites using our
ultra high performance, open systems, networking products," said Carl Pick,
GENROCO Chairman & CEO. "GENROCO interface cards, switch fabrics, and software
drivers are providing solutions to the insatiable bandwidth requirements of
future networks. We certainly appreciate the efforts of the engineers at Oak
Ridge to help illuminate our achievements. We expect even better results in
the months to come." GENROCO's GSN-6466 NIC bridges a 64 bit 66 megahertz PCI
bus to GSN copper or optical interfaces, providing payload bandwidth of 800MB
per second in each direction -- eight times the speed of gigabit Fibre Channel
or Ethernet.
GENROCO GSN NICs and switches are currently being deployed at High Performance
Computing (HPC) sites in the U.S., Europe, and Japan.

institutions.
About Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is a multiprogram science and technology
laboratory sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Scientists and
engineers at ORNL conduct basic and applied research and development to create
scientific knowledge and technological solutions that strengthen the nation's
leadership in key areas of science; increase the availability of clean,
abundant energy; restore and protect the environment; and contribute to
national security.
