Welcome to Lori Collins

I have traveled approximately 750 miles to participate in the Research Alliance
for Minorities ( RAM) program. I
am from
This summer I was awarded the honor of participating in the RAM program.
This program has provided me with the opportunity to conduct the latest
technology research in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division
at ORNL. My mentor Stephen Scott and his team of
researchers have exposed me to different software and technology in
cluster computing. Amara, William (who are also York College students) and I spent the first part of our summer
building a small cluster and learning how to install OSCAR- Open Source Cluster
Application Resources. We were vital in that we helped to do some of the need
testing for OSCAR 1.3 beta 3 version. We helped to log bugs that we found
during our installation process and helped to update the installation document.
I then began to apply my newly retained knowledge of clusters and OSCAR to
begin to examine computing performance by using benchmarks. My experience here
just increased my desire to continue my education. My goal is to continue until
I become Dr. Lori Collins, in hopes that someday soon I could inspire minority undergraduates
to also continue their education and expose them research. If you would like
more information on what I have done please feel free to read my abstract. It
is available in Word and postscript.
